Not every paranormal investigation begins with a haunted legend, an abandoned building, or a location with a mysterious reputation.
Sometimes, it begins with a phone call or a message from someone you've known almost your entire life.
And sometimes, the questions we're asked to investigate are far more personal than anything we could have imagined.
For our third Ghost Texas investigation, we're stepping away from historic locations and local ghost stories to visit a family home where unexplained experiences have taken on a deeply emotional meaning.
When Strange Experiences Follow a Personal Loss
In September 2018, a young man named Zach passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind his parents, children, and fiancée, Kehtra.
I've known Kehtra since kindergarten. We were just five years old when we first met, so hearing about what she and her family were going through was heartbreaking.
In March 2019, Kehtra learned that I was part of Ghost Texas and reached out to me through Facebook.
She explained what had happened to Zach and began describing some unusual experiences she'd been having inside her home since his passing.
There were unexplained noises, items that seemed to move without anyone touching them, and occasional sightings of shapes or shadows she couldn't identify.
For Kehtra, these experiences raised an important question.
Could someone she loved still be close to home?
More Than Just Another Ghost Hunt
When someone reaches out about possible paranormal activity in their home, our first responsibility is to listen.
A family residence isn't like a historic building where we're simply exploring stories from the distant past. It's where people live, where memories are made, and where loved ones are remembered.
And in this case, the circumstances made the investigation especially meaningful to me.
I reached out to Patrick and the rest of our Ghost Texas team to arrange a visit.
We wanted to understand what Kehtra had experienced, learn more about the circumstances surrounding the reports, and see whether there was anything we could reasonably investigate or document.
That meant approaching the evening with sensitivity, patience, and an open mind.
We weren't going into the home expecting to prove that Zach was communicating with anyone. Grief, memory, and unexplained experiences can be deeply intertwined, and we know how important it is not to jump to conclusions.
But we were willing to listen, investigate, and see what we might discover.
Searching for Answers Inside Home Sweet Home
Patrick and I would be conducting this investigation together, bringing our cameras, audio equipment, and other tools to help us document the evening.
Our plan was to spend time with Kehtra, walk through the home, understand where the reported experiences had occurred, and carefully explore anything unusual we encountered.
We hoped that whatever happened, we might be able to offer some understanding or reassurance.
Would we find ordinary explanations for the family's experiences? Would we encounter something that left us with more questions?
There was only one way to find out.
Watch the trailer above, then join us for Home Sweet Home, Ghost Texas Episode 3.
Have you ever experienced something unusual that reminded you of someone you've lost? We'd be interested to hear your story and what that experience meant to you.
