Houston has no shortage of places with interesting histories, but few are quite like La Carafe.
Tucked away in downtown Houston's historic Market Square area, this charming old bar is known for its character, vintage atmosphere, and stories that have accumulated over generations.
It's the kind of place where stepping through the front door can feel like stepping into another era.
And according to some, its history might not be the only thing lingering inside.
When Houston's 93Q Country morning show invited us to join them for a paranormal investigation at La Carafe, we knew this would be an experience unlike our usual Ghost Texas adventures.
For starters, we'd be investigating at six o'clock in the morning!
A Historic Houston Landmark With a Haunted Reputation
La Carafe is one of Houston's best-known historic bars, occupying a building that dates back to the 1800s.
Its narrow interior, old-fashioned furnishings, and unmistakable atmosphere have made it a favorite among people who appreciate Houston history.
But La Carafe also has a reputation for something a little more mysterious.
Over the years, stories of unusual occurrences and possible paranormal activity have become part of the bar's identity. Visitors and employees have shared accounts that have helped make it a familiar name among Houston ghost-story enthusiasts.
Are those experiences connected to the building's history? Are they the kinds of stories that naturally develop around older places?
Or might there be something else worth investigating?
We were excited to explore those questions for ourselves.
Ghost Hunting at Six in the Morning?
Most of our investigations begin in the evening, often around eight o'clock, and continue late into the night.
There's something about exploring an old building after dark that naturally adds to the atmosphere.
But this investigation called for a completely different schedule.
We were joining the 93Q Country morning show as part of its Halloween festivities, which meant getting our equipment ready long before most people would consider starting a ghost hunt.
Would investigating in the early morning feel different?
We certainly expected it to.
But paranormal claims shouldn't depend on whether the sun is up or down. If there's something unusual happening inside a building, the time of day alone shouldn't decide whether it's worth investigating.
And having the 93Q crew join us gave us an opportunity to introduce a few new people to the equipment and methods we use.
Bringing 93Q Country Along for the Investigation
One of the things we enjoy most about Ghost Texas is sharing these experiences with people who don't investigate the paranormal regularly.
Some guests arrive already believing in ghosts. Others are skeptical, curious, or simply excited to try something different.
We welcome all of those perspectives.
For this investigation, we planned to explore La Carafe alongside members of the 93Q morning show, introduce them to our approach, and give them an opportunity to participate.
Among the equipment we'd be bringing was our spirit box, which we sometimes use in sessions designed to test whether unusual responses appear to relate to the questions being asked.
Of course, any apparent response requires careful interpretation. Radio interference, coincidence, and other explanations always have to be considered.
We weren't sure what the morning would bring, but we knew it would be entertaining to share the experience with our guests.
Join Us Inside La Carafe
An old Houston bar, a collection of ghost stories, a radio morning show, and paranormal investigators setting up equipment before sunrise.
What could be more interesting?
Would La Carafe live up to its haunted reputation? Would our special guests leave with a new perspective on paranormal investigations?
We were ready to find out.
Watch the trailer above, then join us for our full investigation of historic La Carafe with 93Q Country.
Have you visited La Carafe in downtown Houston? Whether you've experienced something strange or simply enjoy the building's history, we'd love to hear your story.
