Inside Four Winds Victorian: Our Investigation of a Historic Texas Bed and Breakfast

By Ghost Texas team · Published

When we arrived at Four Winds Victorian in Bonham, Texas, we knew this wasn't going to be an ordinary overnight stay. It's a historic home with a long life before its current use as lodging, and people connected with the property had described experiences they couldn't explain. We wanted to hear those accounts, get familiar with the building and then see what we could document ourselves.

The house gave us plenty to talk about, including a door that appeared to open after we'd closed it, sounds we wanted to trace and experiments with different devices. None of that means we can simply label the place haunted. It means we had questions worth investigating.

A Victorian Home in Bonham

Four Winds is a historic Victorian property near downtown Bonham, in Fannin County. The present lodging business offers suites in the main house and separate cottages. Public property information dates the Victorian residence to 1883. Knowing that history helped us understand why the building matters beyond its paranormal reputation.

We spoke with people familiar with the property about experiences reported in its rooms, including footsteps and other unusual activity. Those were accounts to investigate, not facts we could verify by hearing them once.

Exploring the Floors and Old Rooms

We moved through different parts of the house, including areas upstairs, while setting up cameras and other recording equipment. The layout mattered. Doors, stairways and distant rooms can make ordinary sounds seem as though they're coming from somewhere unexpected.

At different points, members of the team described footsteps, movement or shapes that caught their attention. We tried to check whether lights outside, other people or the building itself could explain what we were seeing. A shadow isn't automatically a person, and a sound coming from another floor doesn't tell us who made it.

The Door We Thought We Had Closed

One of the moments that stood out involved a room door that appeared to be open after we'd shut it. We went back through our footage to establish whether it had been latched, who had been in that part of the house and what the air-conditioning system might have been doing.

The episode includes a closer look at the door's movement. We had questions about whether changes in airflow could have played a part, so we compared the surrounding conditions instead of treating the movement as conclusive evidence of something unseen.

The Red Card Experiment

During the investigation we introduced an experiment using numbered red cards, each connected to a question. The idea was to let an apparent number or prompt determine which question we'd ask next, rather than always choosing one ourselves.

We also used apps and devices that produced words, images or environmental responses. We were interested in the timing of some of those outputs, but we know these tools can generate material without any paranormal cause. A word that seems appropriate in the moment still needs to be considered against everything else the device produced.

The Sessions That Left Us With More Questions

We revisited the rooms and continued listening for sounds or apparent responses. At one point, the conversation turned toward whether multiple unrelated stories might be getting mixed together in the device output. That was a good reminder not to force fragments of audio or text into a single person's identity.

The house's proximity to other historic places prompted speculation during the visit, but we can't identify a speaker or link a recording to a deceased person merely because a name seems to match something nearby.

Where is Four Winds Victorian?

Four Winds is at 317 W. Sam Rayburn Drive, Bonham, Texas. It is an owner-occupied lodging property with private areas. The property's current website says it does not offer paranormal investigations or ghost tours as a guest activity, so do not arrive expecting access for that purpose.

Did Ghost Texas prove Four Winds Victorian is haunted?

No. Our episode records reported experiences and investigative moments, including a door opening and device outputs we found interesting. Those observations don't conclusively establish a supernatural cause.

What Moment Would You Want Us to Recheck?

Would you focus on the door footage, the sounds from another part of the house or the red-card experiment? We'd want to compare recordings and conditions before drawing a larger conclusion. Watch carefully and tell us what you think we should examine again. You can also find more investigations in our Ghost Texas video archive.
