There's a lot you can't work through while you're still investigating a building. You're listening, keeping track of what everyone is doing and trying to understand what might have caused a particular moment. Our After the Investigation conversations give us room to revisit the experiences without pretending we've solved them all.
This time we were looking back at our return to the Old San Jacinto County Jail Museum in Coldspring, Texas. Patrick and I had been there before, but our guests Travis Faler, Laura Faler and Ethan Reed were new to investigating. Their reactions gave us another perspective on familiar rooms. We talked about arranging the visit through a Facebook contest and how eager they were to try the equipment for themselves.
The Temperature Changes We Discussed
We talked about temperature drops in the jail cells and a heavy feeling in certain spaces. We understand why changes like that make people take notice. But the word drop should lead to more questions: Was a reading taken? Where was the sensor? What was the surrounding temperature? Could air movement account for the difference?
We don't want to take the strange feeling away from the night. We do want to be clear about what we observed and what remains interpretation.
Knocks, Whispers and Audio Review
Another part of our conversation involved sounds described as knocks and whispers, including material reportedly captured by audio recorders. Sound can travel through older buildings in unexpected ways. A recording may deserve another listen, but we have to consider where voices or movement could have originated before calling it a response.
We also replayed a chair-related sound while discussing whether someone shifting or sitting down could have produced it. That gave us something concrete to compare instead of treating every creak as a mysterious voice. We kept coming back to the same question: did those recordings capture sounds we couldn't account for, or were we hearing ordinary noises differently because of the setting? We'd rather have you hear the full conversation and make up your own mind than reduce the discussion to a dramatic quote.
What Our First-Time Guests Added
Part of this return visit was giving Travis, Laura and Ethan a chance to participate rather than simply watch us work. We introduced investigative equipment and shared an environment that already had a strong reputation with our team.
The guests' experience matters to the story, but excitement isn't a measurement of paranormal activity. We care about what each person noticed independently and whether our notes or recordings help us compare those accounts.
