Returning to the Old San Jacinto County Jail: New Faces, Familiar Mysteries

By Ghost Texas team · Published

Some places leave you with more questions than answers.

You can spend hours exploring a historic building, reviewing recordings, and trying to understand the things you experienced, only to find yourself wondering what might happen if you went back.

For us, the San Jacinto County Old Jail and Museum in Coldspring, Texas, is one of those places.

We've investigated this historic jail before, exploring its old cells, corridors, and the schoolhouse on the property. It was an experience that gave us plenty to think about, and the location has remained on our minds ever since.

So when another opportunity came along to return, we were more than ready.

But this visit would be a little different.

This time, we were bringing three special guests along for their first paranormal investigation.

Back Behind the Walls of a Historic Texas Jail

There's something about walking back into a location you've investigated before.

The building might look exactly the same, but you don't necessarily see it the same way.

You remember the rooms you explored, the questions you asked, and the moments that made you stop and pay closer attention.

The San Jacinto County Old Jail has a fascinating history dating back to the late 1800s. Its old cells and heavy walls offer a glimpse into a very different period of Texas history, when local law enforcement and incarceration looked nothing like they do today.

The building has also become associated with stories of lingering spirits and unexplained activity.

But as we've said before, a haunted reputation doesn't automatically mean a location is home to anything supernatural.

That's why we enjoy returning to places like this.

A second investigation gives us another opportunity to examine the environment, revisit questions, and see whether anything unusual happens under different circumstances.

Introducing Three New Investigators to the Unknown

For this return visit, Patrick and I were joined by Travis Faler, Laura Faler, and Ethan Reed.

All three were looking forward to experiencing their first paranormal investigation, and we were excited to have them along.

One of our favorite things about Ghost Texas is introducing people to what we do.

Watching someone handle an EVP recorder or EMF meter for the first time, learn about our investigation methods, and walk into a reportedly haunted location can be just as interesting as the investigation itself.

Everyone arrives with different expectations.

Some people are hoping to experience something paranormal. Others are more skeptical and want to see what all the excitement is about.

We welcome both perspectives.

Our goal was to give Travis, Laura, and Ethan an opportunity to participate, ask questions, and experience the process firsthand without telling them what they should believe.

Would the Jail Feel Different This Time?

With our equipment ready, we planned to explore familiar areas of the jail while allowing our guests to experience the location for themselves.

Would we encounter anything similar to what made our earlier visits so memorable?

Would our guests notice things we'd become accustomed to overlooking?

Or would the old building simply offer another interesting night surrounded by history?

We couldn't predict what would happen, and that's part of what keeps us coming back.

Every investigation offers an opportunity to ask new questions, challenge our assumptions, and see a location from a different perspective.

And with three first-time investigators joining us, we knew this return to Coldspring would be a memorable adventure regardless of what we found.

Watch the trailer above, then join us for Ghost Texas Returns to the Old San Jacinto County Jail and Museum.

Have you ever visited the Old San Jacinto County Jail in Coldspring? And if you were going on your very first paranormal investigation, would an old jail be somewhere you'd want to start?
