The Old Schoolhouse and Our Blind Spirit-Box Sessions: San Jacinto County, Part 3

By Ghost Texas team · Published

By the time we reached the final part of our San Jacinto County investigation, we'd spent hours at the old jail and still had questions about an apparent voice-like sound from earlier in the series. The schoolhouse on the property was a place we wanted to examine, not because we already knew what we'd find, but because the possibility of a connection had been on our minds.

This episode follows that last stretch of the investigation and includes blind spirit-box sessions that stood out to our team.

Moving From the Jail to the Schoolhouse

We crossed to the old schoolhouse after time in the jail. While Patrick was setting up a trail camera outside the schoolhouse, another camera recorded a shadow-like shape in a schoolhouse window. We noticed it during a later footage review, not as a person we directly saw in the building. That clip appears near the end of Part 2.

We weren't going to assume the schoolhouse was the explanation for anything recorded elsewhere. We wanted to experience the space directly and pay attention to what the equipment actually captured.

What a Blind Spirit-Box Session Can and Cannot Show

A spirit box moves through radio frequencies, generating fragments of audio. In a blind session, the person listening may be separated from some of the questions or other information available to the rest of the group. The goal is to see whether anything heard appears to correspond to the session without ordinary cues.

Some of the apparent responses we heard that night stayed with us long after we left the schoolhouse. We understand why. A phrase that seems timely can be startling. But a match also needs to be examined against the amount of audio produced, the questions being asked and the possibility of chance or interpretation.

Were We Hearing Children?

Because the location is a former schoolhouse, and because we had earlier discussed a voice that sounded childlike, it would be easy to build a complete story around children returning to a place they remembered. That's not a conclusion we can support from a spirit-box exchange alone.

We can talk about that interpretation as a question that arose during the investigation. We can't present it as the identity of whoever, if anyone, produced a sound.

Looking Back at All Three Parts

We recommend watching Part 1 at the jail and Part 2 at the jail before this episode. Then you can hear how the questions developed over the course of our visits.

We also recorded an After the Investigation discussion about the San Jacinto County series, including material and questions that didn't fit into the finished episodes.

Does a spirit-box response prove someone is speaking from beyond?

No. Spirit-box audio can include broadcast fragments, noise and chance similarities to questions. We treat a striking response as something to review, not a verified identification of a spirit.

Where is the schoolhouse?

The schoolhouse featured in the episode is on the grounds associated with the Old San Jacinto County Jail Museum in Coldspring, Texas. Visiting or filming there requires appropriate permission.

Which Moment Would You Revisit?

If you could replay one session from the schoolhouse, would you focus on the exact timing of the questions or on comparing what different listeners heard? That's the kind of detail we would want before drawing a bigger conclusion.
