After the Investigation: Breaking Down What Happened at Tejas Chocolate + Barbecue

By Ghost Texas team · Published

When we sat down to talk about our night at Tejas Chocolate + Barbecue, we had plenty to go over. There had been something unusual before we even began the investigation, a series of moments in the chocolate room and a handful of questions about doors, lights and sounds that we hadn't resolved on site.

First, we wanted to thank Scott, Greg, Michelle and the Tejas team for letting us film. They shared their stories and gave us access to a working business. We don't take that for granted.

The Security Footage That Started the Conversation

Our first big topic was the security recording involving an ice scoop that had fallen from the top of a machine shortly before we arrived. In the ATI, we discussed where the scoop was usually kept, what the camera did and didn't show, and why people who worked there found the event surprising.

We also looked at footage of other objects shifting or falling. We understood why those clips made an impression, but a recording doesn't automatically show what started a movement. We would have liked a higher camera angle and more context around the objects before making a stronger claim.

The Beep in the Chocolate Room

We went back over an audio-reactive device that lit up when a beep sounded nearby. During the follow-up, we considered whether the beep might have come from a microwave or another electronic device in the room. That was an important possibility, because equipment can react to ordinary environmental sounds even when we haven't noticed them ourselves.

It's easy to treat a timely light as an answer to a question. We want to know what activated it first.

The Voice I Thought I Heard

One of the moments I wanted to discuss was a muffled male-sounding voice I thought I heard behind me in the chocolate room. I initially assumed another team member had spoken, but Marcos and Turner said they hadn't. I couldn't understand any words.

In our follow-up, we also realized we'd been mixing up some details from an employee's account of what she'd experienced in that area. That memory correction matters. It shows exactly why we review the footage instead of relying only on how we remember the night.

The Restroom Door and the Outdoor Session

We discussed a light and restroom door that Marcos believed he'd left off and closed. Our first step was trying to establish who had used the room and when, not assuming something had moved it.

We also revisited the outdoor spirit-box session, including a reported sensation of pressure or contact on the head. It's a real account of how someone felt at the time, but we can't identify an unseen source from a personal sensation.

These were the kinds of moments that made the night memorable and the follow-up worthwhile.

Why We Made the ATI

If you haven't watched our original Tejas Chocolate + Barbecue investigation, start there. Then watch the ATI to see us compare the recorded moments with our recollections. Some of our most useful discussion was about ordinary explanations and details we didn't remember correctly the first time.

What does ATI stand for?

ATI means After the Investigation. We use these conversations to review moments from an episode and talk about what the evidence can and cannot tell us.

Did we confirm that a spirit called Travis was at Tejas?

Employees shared stories about a presence they referred to as Travis. Those stories were part of the background to our investigation. We did not establish that someone by that name caused the recorded events.

What Detail Would You Test Again?

For us, the best next step would be another careful look at the camera angles, electronics and full audio. Which moment would you want us to investigate under more controlled conditions?
